A few months back I wrote an article on LinkedIn about the need for theatre based training in organisations. On one hand I had a lot of people telling me they liked what theatre could do for an organisation, while on the other there were people telling me they were already investing in good training programmes, so they did not need to opt for theatre to do the same.
Those who actually watched the show told me their organisation needed to see the show as it was very relevant to them. I am now back with a brand new production – The Kingdom of Chaos – needless to say given my management background, it deals with organisational issues apart from the general one’s.
Here is why you should watch it:
1. Dance theatre is not what you think it is – Most people’s impression of dance theatre is dancers doing body movements bordering on contortions in order to convey abstract notions or ideas. It feels like the artist is on a different planet trying to convey things one does not really understand. If that is the impression you have had well let me tell you – it is not. Dance theatre can be made very easily understandable to any person including a child. We are here to tell a story using dance, to a layman who does not understand the technicalities of the form, and with dialogues in English we make it easier for you to understand the language of dance.
2. We are not here to judge your organisation – The stories we present are works of famous playwrights which use specific situations to explain a message they wish to convey. We broaden the scope to include organisational issues. It does not mean your organisation has all of these issues, so treat it like a case study.
3. Take a break from slides, presentations and books – Entertainment helps convey the best of messages or learnings without much effort or active learning on the part of the viewer. It conveys the same learnings minus the jargon in a very entertaining and light manner but drives home the point.
4. Give your employees a fun evening – How about gifting your employees a nice evening of entertainment that pertains to learning but does not ‘scream’ learning. Good news is its not very heavy on the pocket too and given the amounts companies spend on expensive trainings, this one is a tiny ‘half a drop’.
5. It is ok to try new things once in a while – You have used tried and tested methods. Why not try something off beat? Something different. Innovation does not need to be restricted to technology, it can be extended to learning solutions. Why not try this innovative learning solution for a change?
