Three Stories (Baithak series)
Prakriti’s lust for a Buddhist wayfarer takes her on a path of destruction. Princess Chitrangada is torn between love and self-worth, and the King’s attempt to educate his parrot goes haywire. Presenting three of Tagore’s works.
BACKGROUND OF THE PLAY AND THE PLAYWRIGHT
The production presents three full-length plays of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore in dance theatre style with dialogues in English. Written in the early 1900’s, these plays are evergreen and deal with current day issues like body shaming, gender sensitivity, organizational functioning and ethics.
Two of the these stories are Tagore’s dance dramas. He wrote them as a protest against the British who looked down upon Indian music, dance and theatre as un-Victorian and Indian artists as nautch girls. The third story we present is a short story and is a critique of the British system. “Three Stories” premiered in September 2018 to a full house and extremely positive reviews.
